From ancient times to the period of history and through the Indian independence struggle, women with courage and wisdom have emerged from the Tamil land. However, many of their accomplishments have been either forgotten or concealed as lost history.

Among these remarkable achievements is the unparalleled victory of a woman warrior, the history of Velu Nachiyar, the queen who ruled Sivaganga. This great historical account, which was hidden, was brought back to life by Sriram Sharma, founder of UDAYAL PADAI CHARITABLE TRUST, through his tireless 15 years of work, particularly in the form of art.

In the 18th century Tamil Nadu, it was Velu Nachiyar who established the world's first female army, which she named Udayal Padai.

UDAYAL PADAI!

It is a thrilling fact in Tamil history that 2,000 women served as warriors in Velu Nachiyar’s army, known for their bravery, commitment, and creativity. The vision of Sriram Sharma has been to revive this Udayal Padai tradition among the school and college girls of today.

Today, women across the world are excelling in many fields. They are contributing more than ever before to social progress, playing an invaluable role. The society that benefits from their monumental contributions has a duty to ensure their safety and protection.

Safety comes in two forms: one is external, and the other comes from within. While advocating for the safety and well-being of women, it is also essential that women themselves believe they can protect and defend themselves.

This belief is at the core of the Udaiyal Padai program, which has been dedicated to forming self-defense units in schools, colleges, and the larger community. This initiative offers training workshops for the protection and empowerment of women. Udaiyal Padai Training Workshop!

The Udaiyal Padai Training Workshop includes:

  • Self-defense workshops
  • Mental wellness workshops
  • Workshops on escaping from online sexual harassment

The ultimate outcome of this training is that the women who participate will not only be able to protect themselves but also become powerful advocates for resolving issues faced by their peers, both in schools, colleges, and in society at large.

The virtue of womanhood must emerge from within women themselves. Our mission is to demonstrate that the strength for this lies within them.
